Approval & underwriting pathway estimator

Answer some general questions and this tool will tell you which underwriting process may be worth exploring — the route an application usually takes, what it involves and roughly how long it takes. It is not an approval, it is not a quote, and nobody is being assessed. The insurance company decides that, later, after a real application.

Around five minutes. No email needed to see your result.

Roughly how old are you?

Age changes which underwriting processes a carrier will offer, more than almost anything else does.

Your answers stay in your browser while you work through this. We do not ask for your name, email or phone number to show you a result, and nothing here is an application. Health answers in particular are worked out on your own device and are never sent to us.

Context

How underwriting actually works

Underwriting is how an insurance company decides whether to offer you coverage, and at what price. It has four fairly predictable parts. Only the first one is yours.

Underwriting in four stages: you complete and sign an application, the insurance company checks records it can look up, it may request an exam or your medical records, and then it decides. Only the first stage is yours; the rest are the insurance company's, and waiting on medical records is usually the longest part.

What this does not show: Your timeline. These waits are what commonly happens, not a promise. How fast it goes depends on the company, the product, whether an exam is needed and how quickly your doctor's office replies — and none of those are in our control or theirs.

Two things follow from that. First, carriers genuinely differ: the same situation can produce different answers at different companies, which is why the order in which they are approached matters. Second, no tool on any website can tell you what a carrier will do, because the carrier has not looked at anything yet.

What this tool can do is tell you which process people in broadly similar circumstances usually go through, so you know what you are walking into and what to ask about.

Important information

Educational information. The information on this page is general and educational. It is not insurance, tax or legal advice, and it is not a recommendation to buy, keep, change or cancel any policy. Your own situation may lead to a different conclusion. Please talk with a licensed professional before acting.

Underwriting and approval. Nothing on this site is an approval, a decline, a quote or an offer of coverage. Eligibility, your rate class and your final premium are determined by the insurance company after you submit a formal application and it completes its own underwriting review. Carrier rules differ and change over time.

Product availability. Products, riders and features are offered by the issuing insurance company, not by Quantum Family Wealth. Availability, names, costs and terms vary by carrier and by state, and can change. Not every product described here is available to every applicant.

Do not cancel existing coverage. Do not cancel, lapse or reduce coverage you already have based on anything you read here or on any estimate produced by these tools. Replacing coverage can have real costs and you may not qualify for new coverage. Talk to a licensed professional before changing an existing policy.

About this estimate. This tool produces a general estimate from the figures you entered and simple assumptions you can adjust. It is not personalised advice, an application, an underwriting decision or a quote. Real numbers depend on the carrier, the product, your health and your state.
